Baya Grabs FAA Reliever of the Year Award Friday, September 1st, 1939 His manager and teammates call Lakew Baya a true bullpen ace. The FSSL Double A calls him the winner of the Reliever of the Year Award for 1939. The Vancouver Mounties relief specialist out of Mindelo, Cape Verde, won the award with 36 saves in 51 relief appearances, 29 strikeouts in 55.2 innings and 16 walks. He compiled a record of 6 wins and 2 losses and had a 0.65 ERA. He received 7 first place votes out of a possible 14.
