Just a heads up, the WBA will be transitioning to OOTP 18 at some point. Most likely it will be about a month after release, same as last year. That puts it sometime in late April.
With that in mind, there is a reported new feature in OOTP 18 that I'd like to discuss with the league in terms of incorporating it into the WBA in the future. This would of course require that the new feature works as advertised, and we know that is never guaranteed whenever any software package adds features.
"OOTP 18 now features custom and real world tournaments. Watch the best prospects play in the Arizona Fall League, or set up your own tournament pitting the best of each nation facing off against each other! Set up your own national or international tournaments, choose from different tournament modes, and manage your favorite nation to international glory."
This tournaments feature intrigues me, and in particular the international tournament part considering the design of the WBA. I'm not really particularly interested in holding ABL and IBL Cup style tournaments as I don't think that will work well within the schedule. However I do think that the possibility of an international WBA Cup every other year or every 4 years would be interesting. Considering the work involved with selecting teams my first thought is that it may be something we just organize and let the AI run as far as team selection and managing the squads. The human team owners would essentially be spectators.
Thoughts?

Can we turn injuries off?

Ha. That would definitely be part of the discussion.

I would be in support of this.

To kind of preview the nations that would be participating if we don't change anything on player creation, here's some data on our player universe:
Nations with at least 50 professional players in the WBA universe:
1. The United States - 574
2. China - 349
3. Brazil - 332
4. India - 287
5. Mexico - 222
6. Colombia - 82
7. Japan - 81
8. Dominican Republic - 72
9. Canada - 69
10. Argentina - 65
11. Venezuela - 64
12. Nigeria - 55
13. Indonesia - 52
14. Russia - 50
Nations with at least 25 players at the AA level or above:
1. The United States - 278
2. China - 153
3. Brazil - 148
4. India - 131
5. Mexico - 112
6. Dominican Republic - 38
7. Colombia - 35
8. Japan - 34
9. Canada - 30
10. Argentina - 28
11. Venezuela - 28
12. Nigeria - 25
--------------------
13. Russia - 24
14. Indonesia - 23
-
France is horribly under represented!
-
That's actually what I'm talking about. I'm planning to tweak the player creation numbers so that there's essentially a bonus for nations depending on how many years they've had a WBA team.
-
I think this would be cool.

WBA News Update:
WBA Youth Academies to Debut Youngsters for the 2108 Drafts
Although it was apparently done in secret, it was today announced that the WBA had designed and operated youth academies in the nations with WBA teams since the Association's inception. Targeting youth players beginning at age 11 and operating since 2100, the academies will see their first graduates enter the 2108 drafts in both the ABL and IBL. What this means practically is that there will be more players coming from WBA team nations depending on the number of seasons that the nation has had a WBA team (having multiple teams such as the case with Brazil and the USA counts more - each team season is counted individually).

Manual is up.

I cannot get my pre-order to go through. It tells me to contact esllergate, which I have now done 5 times, and they they give the green light to purchase. The issue is that nothing changes when trying to purchase the game. At this point, I am over trying to get the game purchased.

That sucks. Send an email directly to Lukas Berger.

I think I read on one of the threads somewhere that he was helping people with licensing issues and other stuff like that.

Someone else is having the exact same issue, so if you add your name to that list then it will get more attention.

Hey Huck,
That was me. He basically said to try a different payment method, but that did not work either.
-
Oh, that sucks. I've got it working on my machine but only in Safe Mode.
-
Yeah, I feel like I have had issues with their Ecom platform before today. Who knows

Okay, looks like I successfully imported the league into OOTP18 for the WBA Cup Test.
Did the following steps:
1. All teams were set to AI control.
2. Changed statistical settings drastically and randomly (auto-calc after picking a season basis is not available during the regular season). Jacked home runs way down, errors way up, etc.
Next up, I am going to attempt to add a tournament to the game.
-
During creation, it appears that you designate a host city for the tournament. I'm going with Washington, DC for the first one.
-
Sweet, you can set multiple leagues as affiliated leagues. So both the ABL and IBL are officially affiliated so the OOTP software should pull rosters properly. Less work for me is always good.
-
So when will the WBA officially switch over?
-
After the 2107 playoffs are over. Gives us time to recruit new owners if necessary, doesn't mess with a season, etc. At least that will be the plan, assuming OOTP18 is stable enough by then.
-
&*#%&$*&
Had it mostly set up then the game crashed when trying to change stat settings.
And of course like an idiot I hadn't saved.
-
Set it up again. Fast simming to roster selection day. I can't use the auto-calc button on the tournament league settings page or the game crashes.
-
Alright, the teams were automatically selected, everything looks good. Simming up until the tournament is supposed to start, then I'm going to close OOTP18 so I can reboot my computer in normal mode and run tonight's sim.
Checked one more thing and it looks good. In between the time the tournament rosters were announced and the start of the tournament, I found a player who was a professional free agent who signed a contract and that did NOT affect his tournament roster status.

Just a reminder, we will be moving to OOTP 18 at the conclusion of the 2107 playoffs (actually on the first day of the offseason).
-
Tomorrow night's sim (Wednesday 4/19) is the final OOTP 17 sim. Our first sim of the 2107-08 offseason will be in OOTP 18 although the exact date won't be known until we find a Seoul owner. Please check in here with your OOTP 18 status.
-
I've purchased and installed OOTP 18.
-
Purchased, installed, running great so far. Can't wait for the move! Also quick question, will the Brisbane move to Melbourne be processed during the switch to 18 or will it have to wait until 2108?

That will happen as soon as the game date rolls to 1/1/2108. That way the history pages, which are generated on December 31st each year, properly say Brisbane Bandits for 2107.

Sao Paulo has succesfully transitioned to OOTP 18

I've got it.

-
I am still having issues finding the file to import from 17.

-
I should have clarified. When I select this file it tells me that the file was saved in 18 and cannot open?
-
Not sure what to do about that. I guess you could try copying that folder into your OOTP 18 directory and going from there. That message makes it sound like it's already an OOTP 18 game, but I've never seen that one before.
You might want to just run the steps in this thread as a workaround:

Is this what it should look like? If so, OOTP18 is not finding the lg option.
-
No, you need to find the world.dat file inside of the World Baseball Association.lg folder.
Although that's not the right path if yours is installed normally. You should be inside C:\Users\your computer username\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 18\saved_games
-
Still working on this. The issue is that the Test 1 file is my current offline game. I thought this would need to be in the same spot for ootp18 to find the save.
-
I am in!
