Toucans Lose By a Run at Rio de Janeiro
|
Abdul Qadir Shirazi left his imprint on the 5-4 Rio de Janeiro win against the Sao Paulo Toucans. Shirazi was 1 for 1 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Rio de Janeiro pitcher Murtadi bin Jabbar got the win. He's now 1-0. Jihad bin Ghazi was tagged with the loss. In-kwon Yun earned the save for Rio de Janeiro, his 2nd of the year.
Shirazi had a timely hit for Rio de Janeiro in the bottom of the sixth. With Rio de Janeiro trailing 4-3, he turned a 1-0 splitter into a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season, making it 5-4, Rio de Janeiro.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Sao Paulo manager Casey Blake DeWitt. "But we decided not to take it."
The Toucans, now 4-8, continue their inauspicious start.
