The Detroit Blue Gills did just enough to sneak past the Sao Paulo Toucans, 6-5, at Tokyo Ballpark. Detroit pitcher Jhong-shun Liu, in particular, had a standout performance. The Blue Gills, with just their 6th win so far in 2151, have yet to catch fire.

Mike Price, who finished 4th in the IBL in triples with 13 in 2145, chipped in a solo home run for Detroit in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.

Liu expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
