Both teams had their chances, but the Mexico City Aztecs eventually prevailed.
In a low-scoring contest between the Mexico City Aztecs and the Puerto Rico Coqui, Stanley Merritt was the X factor. The Mexico City right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Joseph Muller, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 5th save.
Mexico City used the timely hitting of Tai Khuc to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Aztecs on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Puerto Rico manager Kir By. "We just didn't cash in."
The win has Mexico City at 8-14.
