Due in large part to first baseman Raúl Aguilar, the Melbourne Meteors sunk the Beijing Emperors, 8-3. Aguilar went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The winning pitcher was Erik Sverdrup. He tossed 97 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. For Beijing, now 17-8, wins have been plentiful, losses few.

Wattas Mwenda had a big solo home run for the Meteors in the top of the third inning. With Melbourne leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Jhong-shun Lee, who led the IBL in ERA with 3.03 last year, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Meteors on top, 3-1.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Aguilar.
