Toucans Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The Sao Paulo Toucans racked up a win at Rio de Janeiro Grounds, bumping off the Rio de Janeiro Jaguars, 4-3, in 11 innings. Øivind Ulland, who started for Sao Paulo, pitched effectively for his team. The Jaguars drop to 15-15 and continue their mediocre start to the 2154 season.
Sao Paulo used a timely hit from Hansakaya Sampath to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 11th inning to put the Toucans ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"It was a test of wills," said Casey Blake DeWitt, the Sao Paulo skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
