Belmondo Socks Stars in 9-6 Thunderbirds Win
At Thunderdome, the Los Angeles Stars and El Paso Thunderbirds were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

The El Paso Thunderbirds defeated the Los Angeles Stars by the score of 9-6, with the biggest share of the credit going to third baseman Gianpaolo Belmondo. Belmondo went 3-5 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4 for the Thunderbirds on the day. Mayne Rippon earned the win for El Paso. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 6-3.

Johan Alcova had a big 2-run double for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the first inning. With El Paso leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Godfried Ludeman and swatted a double to center. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunderbirds ahead, 3-0.

"It was a solid team effort," said Alcova after the game.

The Thunderbirds now have a record of 40-44 with the win over Los Angeles.
