Fans who congregated at Field of the Stars were treated to extra-inning drama.

In a tight contest at Field of the Stars, the Sao Paulo Toucans edged the Los Angeles Stars by the score of 8-7. Sao Paulo catcher Rubén Ramos, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Sao Paulo reliever Omar Baronia picked up the win to move to 1-0. Larry Murdoch suffered the loss.

Ramos broke a deadlock in the top of the 16th inning, when he hit a sacrifice fly, putting Sao Paulo up, 8-7.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Los Angeles manager Alex G. "But we decided not to take it."

The defeat makes Los Angeles 39-53.
