The Melbourne Meteors downed the Rome Generals, 5-4. The hitting star was first baseman Sima Lovre. Lovre was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Meteors. The Meteors raised their record to 49-53.

Had Bobby Wheeler not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Wheeler hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Meteors.

"I was able to square up some pitches," said Lovre.
