The Rio de Janeiro Jaguars, despite a fine performance by Havana pitcher Tony Gutiérrez, grabbed a 3-2 win at Rio de Janeiro Grounds. Gutiérrez allowed 3 runs over 6 innings. Apasanka Shally came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 6-1. The Jaguars have a one-game lead in the Americas Baseball League Latin American Division.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rio de Janeiro catcher Michael Smith had a run-producing at-bat. Facing Havana hurler Tony Gutiérrez, Smith grounded out, driving in 1 run. That made the score 3-0, Rio de Janeiro. For the day, Smith drove in one run.

Smith said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
