Brice Clips Toucans for Cycle
|
Jeremy Brice did everything he could for the Mexico City Aztecs -- literally.
The 24-year-old third baseman hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Aztecs, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Sao Paulo Toucans, 8-6, at Toucans Ballpark.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Brice reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Brice banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Jeremy Brice singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off António Moreno in the 4th, hit a two-run triple in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
This year, Brice has batted at a .235 pace with 8 hits, 2 home runs, 5 RBIs and scored 5 times.
