The Rome Generals defeated the Cairo Pharaohs, 9-2, in Intercontinental Baseball League action at The Colosseum. Luys Pegas pulled his weight. The 9-year veteran went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Rome pitcher Elikai Ipo got the win. He's now 2-0. Pete Martin was tagged with the loss. The 4th-place Generals bumped their record to 56-67.

The Pharaohs had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Generals going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old shortstop Ismael Esparza came to the plate. Esparza hit a 2-run double on a 1-2 fastball from Cairo hurler Mario Ghiberti. It was Esparza's 10th double of the year.

"We took a roundhouse punch to the chin," said losing manager J Stell.
