Behind a fine performance from Armando Madrid, the Detroit Blue Gills knocked off the El Paso Thunderbirds, 13-4. Madrid went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for the Blue Gills. Detroit, with the win, climbs to 39-93.

With Detroit leading 8-0 in the top of the sixth, Madrid came up to bat against El Paso pitcher George Simmons. Madrid hit a fastball to right for a grand slam home run. His 15th home run of the season put the Blue Gills on top, 12-0.

"Winning is hard sometimes," said Blue Gills manager Detroit Dave. "This one was nice to get."
