Beefs Fall Short at El Paso, 6-5
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the El Paso Thunderbirds and Chicago Beefs.
Chicago first baseman Alfonso Alfaro had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Alfaro was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, even as El Paso beat the Beefs, 6-5. Timothy Adamczak converted his 27th save in 34 tries.
Johan Alcova drew 2 walks in 5 trips to the plate. He scored 2 runs for El Paso. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Alcova, who finished 3rd in the ABL in doubles with 46 in 2149, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Chicago hurler Thomas Charbonnier, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Thunderbirds a 6-5 lead.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Alcova.
El Paso goes to 68-75, Chicago to 80-63.
