The Detroit Blue Gills turned back the Los Angeles Stars, 6-5, at Tokyo Ballpark. Joy-shan Pian, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The Blue Gills now have a record of 14-28.

Had Wildemar Sabuero not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Sabuero hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Blue Gills.

"We're producers not directors," said Pian. "Produce a good swing. Can't direct where it goes."
