The Chicago Beefs picked up a win at Field of the Stars, taking down the Los Angeles Stars, 2-1. Starting pitcher Patrick Widhoezl was a big reason why. The win went to Scott Merritt in relief. His record improves to 5-4. Larry Murdoch took the loss. Chicago is now 85-67, Los Angeles 66-86.

Adrien Champion had a direct impact on the outcome. Champion contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Chicago up, 2-1.

"Patrick made the big pitches when he needed to," said Chicago manager Dill On.
