Behind an impressive start by Javier Villegas, Rio de Janeiro beat Puerto Rico, 5-2. Villegas got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 3 hits and walked 1 over 5.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Rio de Janeiro goes to 5-0.
Birru Chisulo had a big 2-run double for the Jaguars in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Rio de Janeiro leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from Awinagh Ezeamaka, who finished 5th in the ABL in strikeouts with 186 last year, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Jaguars ahead, 4-1.
Rio de Janeiro manager Echo 127 praised his team's "businesslike approach."
