Toucans Deal Jaguars 3-1 Loss
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Rio de Janeiro Jaguars home opener. Chinh Tran-Dinh started for the home team against Mariano Segura for the Sao Paulo Toucans. The Jaguars were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 3-1, Sao Paulo, in 14 innings. Mariano Segura, though, was impressive. Sao Paulo pitcher Asir Qutaybah got the win. He's now 1-0. Enrique Cordero was tagged with the loss. Joe McCandles was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Abraha Saqr came through with a big-time hit for Sao Paulo. The right fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the 14th inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
In postgame comments, Segura said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
