Monks Get Extra-Inning, 4-3 Win
|
Beijing got a valiant performance from pitcher Mathieu Richet, but it wasn't enough to beat the Daegu Monks. Daegu won the game, 4-3. Richet threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. The win puts the Monks at 21-32, while the Emperors drop to 35-18.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Miguel Peña came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Beijing pitcher Ramachandra Ghandi, he hit a 2-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Daegu on top, 4-3.
In postgame comments, Peña said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
