With Late Score, Emperors Beat Generals
|
Beijing right fielder Martín Meloncelli played a vital role in his team's 9-8 conquest of Rome. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 for Beijing. The Emperors bumped their record to 32-21 with this latest triumph.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With no one out, Meloncelli hit a fastball from Preki Cvetkovic for a run-scoring single. The Emperors, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"Both teams had plenty of clutch hits," said Meloncelli. "It made for an exciting game."
