Monks Rebuff Pharaohs, 4-3
|
The Daegu Monks dumped the Cairo Pharaohs, 4-3, in large part due to shortstop Marcos Escamilla. On the day, Escamilla was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles for the Monks. Dustin Sanders, who is tied for 2nd in the IBL in complete games with 2, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. The Monks improved to 22-33.
Pie-qi Liao dealt the Pharaohs a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Daegu leading 3-1, Liao, who finished 3rd in the IBL in doubles with 42 in 2148, hit a 2-1 changeup for a run-scoring single.
"We were the better team," crowed Liao.
