Thunderbirds Get Gritty, 4-3 Win
The El Paso Thunderbirds did just enough to sneak past the Detroit Blue Gills, 4-3, at Thunderdome. El Paso first baseman Tien Dung Long, in particular, had a standout performance. El Paso reliever Chong-yee Ming picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jhong-shun Liu was tagged with the loss. The win takes El Paso to 3-4.

The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Long delivered big-time for El Paso, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Jhong-shun Liu. The game-changing hit put the Thunderbirds on top, 4-3.

"We were the better team," crowed Long.
