Kanja Helps Tokyo Cruise to 10-3 Win
|
With center fielder Khaldun Kanja leading the charge, the Tokyo Fitzies defeated the Melbourne Meteors, 10-3, at Meteor Crater. Kanja, who is tied for 10th in the IBL in RBI with 43, was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. With the win, Tokyo raised its record to 40-25.
Julian Weke had a big 2-run home run for the Fitzies in the top of the first inning. With Tokyo leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Pavlya Lazarenko, who finished 3rd in the ABL in innings pitched with 224.0 in 2143, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Fitzies on top, 3-0.
"Not one of our better nights," said Melbourne skipper Bob Meteors.
