The Rio de Janeiro Jaguars started the Divisional Series in style, downing the visiting Havana Dolphins at Rio de Janeiro Grounds by a score of 8-4 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Jaguars third baseman Jaime López was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2.

In the bottom of the second, Rio de Janeiro catcher Juan Escobedo had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Escobedo stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 7-0, Rio de Janeiro. For the game, he was 1-4. He drove in 2 runs.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Rio de Janeiro manager Echo 127 told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
