Valverde Belts 7 Hits Sunday, June 30th, 2120 La Plata center fielder Aguostinho Valverde could do no wrong today, but the Dolphins could. Valverde collected 7 hits against the Santiago Caballeros, but he couldn't win the game. La Plata fell, 13-12, in extra innings at Dolphins Ballpark. "It's a shame we didn't win," Valverde said later. "It would have been a very special day if that had happened." "In every one of his at-bats, things were in his favor," Caballeros manager said. "We couldn't keep him from getting ahead in the count and once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get better pitches to hit." Aguostinho Valverde doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off José Villegas in the 8th, hit an RBI single in the 9th, hit an RBI double in the 11th, walked in the 12th, singled in the 14th and flied out in the 16th. Valverde is presently hitting at a .316 pace with 3 home runs, 26 RBIs and has scored 32 times. |
