Getting 5 hits in a game has always been memorable feat in baseball. In the Recife's 25-2 win over South Bend, second baseman Miguel Martínez was red-hot, scorching them for hit after hit at Jaguars Ballpark.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax," Martínez said afterward. "I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I have to admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for five. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close."
Miguel Martínez hit a solo-shot off Clotilde Betote in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, flied out in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
In his season totals, Martínez has 11 home runs, .305 BA, .354 OBP, 39 RBIs and 33 runs scored. He has played in 68 games.
