Toucans Get One-Run Win at Rio de Janeiro
|
The Sao Paulo Toucans scored a tight 2-1 win versus the Rio de Janeiro Jaguars at Rio de Janeiro Grounds. Sao Paulo pitcher Mariano Segura held his own in the contest. In 7.2 innings, Segura surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Chong-yee Ming converted his 20th save in 25 tries.
The outcome might have been different for Sao Paulo, had it not been for Abraha Saqr, the slugging right fielder . Saqr stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Sao Paulo up, 2-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Saqr.
With the victory, the Toucans upped their record to 50-33.
