Thunderbirds Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Dolphins, 4-2
|
The El Paso Thunderbirds picked up a win at Thunderdome, knocking off the Havana Dolphins, 4-2. On the mound for El Paso was right-hander Minh-Khan Nguyen-Khoa, who played a pivotal role in the win. Nguyen-Khoa, now 14-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. Qian-fu Luo got the save, his 35th in 39 chances.
Thao Trung, who finished 2nd in the ABL in batting average with .353 in 2144, aided the El Paso cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the third. For the game, the center fielder was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Nguyen-Khoa, "and then get after it again."
El Paso, at 92-41, is 26 games up in the Americas Baseball League North American Division.
