Song Liu did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Mexico City Aztecs from losing, 6-5, to the El Paso Thunderbirds at Thunderdome. Liu was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2. Xing-peng Tze came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Qian-fu Luo was credited with the save for El Paso, his 14th of the season.
El Paso took a 6-5 lead on Kyle Middleton's 14th home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Mexico City pitcher Ki-chun Lee in the bottom of the seventh.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Middleton.
The Thunderbirds have an impressive 32-14 record.
