General WBA Discussion / Re: OOTP 19 (and a crazy idea)
« on: February 03, 2018, 08:40:50 AM »
I guess I sort of like the new league idea. I wouldn't be against change, but I would not want to change it so radically that people would leave. I think this is a really good league, but it's never a bad idea to shake things up.

I really love the Association Cup idea. I've always loved how soccer has international duty on certain weekends. I have tried to do it in my personal sims where weekends would be off and you could have international play then but I'm not good enough at scheduling.

I'd support some type of change just to keep things interesting.

My thoughts --

1. Holy regression for Mexico City and Rio. I could see a small step back, but I think they both have pretty solid squads.
2. I think Puerto Rico is better than the prediction. I could see them battle for the last playoff spot. Probably depends on the youth, though.
3. Latin-American and Afro-European divisions look like dog fights once again this year. Is Black Forest ever going to be bad?
4. Did anybody see Clap is supposed to win 29 games...?
5. If I don't win the pennant this year, it will be my greatest failure.

2110 OPENING DAY IS HERE, AND EMS THINK TIME IS RIGHT

SEATTLE, WASH; The 2110 version of the Northwest Emerald's are back in town from their spring exhibition schedule and this time around, they believe the time to bring a championship to the Pacific Northwest is now.

"This will be a fun group to watch. We have speed, we have power, we have table-setters. Vets and rooks, we have it all. We have been so close the past two years, but I think there is something special about this team," said slugging second basemen Jason Himes.

After bowing out to the defending WBA champions, the Ems were cautious in their offseason moves. Many speculated they would try to revamp their infield or stockpile another arm into their already loaded pitching staff. Just two weeks into free agency, Northwest struck gold in signing a veteran proven closer in Falco Venema to lock down the backside of the bullpen. Then, with only a few weeks to go until spring training, GM AndyHustle made his final move.  With the team needing another veteran bat, AndyHustle inked a deal with Melbourne to send stud catcher Itri Jela to Seattle in exchange for pitcher Alfred Reeves, Gennarino DaVinci, and a 2nd round pick.

"I felt like our window of opportunity is here. Obviously you have the Dolphins, Toucans, and Jaguars all competing in the same window but it's time for us to take the next step and join the elite ranks of the WBA," said GM AndyHustle.

Is this the year the Emeralds solve the mighty Dolphins? Can they fend off the offensive-juggernaut in Sao Paulo? Their long-awaited championship window is open and they must take advantage of that.

Also on board with Jake.

Also, if we weren't clear the want for change to the financials had very little to do with one signing. It's been a negative part of the league since I got here. Being able to extend superstars for dirt cheap was the basis for our argument, not a single FA signing.

« on: September 29, 2017, 07:44:57 PM »
and if there is so much cash hanging around that someone was just biddgin for the sake of it...then the cash is the issue.

people pay for FA because they can, no issues there.

So Clap is saying everyone has the money so they should trade for him, correct? He's right. However, I think people value prospects to the point where that particular player has no value to trade for. Contract notwithstanding.

General WBA Discussion / Re: Financial issues I think we should address.
« on: September 29, 2017, 07:38:36 PM »
FWIW, I think the hashimoto situation is the exact issue with this league...and its the exact oposite of what evetyone says. no one trades. he was offered 20 M a year...didnt sign, and then signed for less, was put up for sale...and nothing. people over value prospects that will never develop in this league. I have never seen such minor league depth...yet people are mega greedy when it comes to trade. THATS the problem :) but im drunk and love to trade.

Hashimoto is a 32 year old 3B who can't play defense and is on his decline into the 2 and under WAR. I don't think he has much value for trade.

General WBA Discussion / Re: Financial issues I think we should address.
« on: September 29, 2017, 07:34:48 PM »
I was literally writing an article on this when this started happening. But I'll throw in my ideas...

Right now players are signing for pennies of what they should be. Any FA is on his downward spiral and makes way more than they should. It is a sellers market and always will be sense cash has no meaning.

1. Jake and I talked about the union idea last night. I like that or the idea of it.

2. All players go to free agency. No extensions. That would mean they get fair market value but then picks and prospects become obsolete in trades.

I think something needs to happen because people are able to build super teams on small payrolls and will never have to give up their players. I'm afraid it becomes the downfall of our league.

I would support no trades until after the playoffs and holding off on the draft until after also. I wanted to see my team through the end of this year before getting a move on next season and that was kinda difficult with the hot stove happening so early.

Emeralds defeat Palmchats 3-2, Will face the Buenos Aires Dolphins in ACS

SEATTLE, WASH; The Santo Domingo Palmchats have been the face of the World Baseball Association for years. With their star-studded lineup led by two-time triple crown winner Cheslav Zamorov, they seemed poised for one last run for glory as their aging roster has started showing their wear and tear. They were supposed to run through the baby-faced Northwest Emeralds in the first round to face the mighty Buenos Aires Dolphins. Or so we thought....

Chris Buchanan and the Emeralds had different ideas. The once-heralded prospect turned flameout trying to earn a position back in the big leagues came up in the clutch time and time again, sending home runs deep into the October night in games 5 and 6. Buchanan's name will forever be etched into the heart's of the Emerald faithful. Series MVP Hector Velasquez hit .435 with 3 doubles and 1 home run to pace the offense. The pitching bend-but-don't-break mantra was led in large part to Angelo Chavez and his gutty 7 inning performances in crucial games 2 and 6.

This isn't the end of the road for the Emeralds. Up next lies one of the all-time great teams in the Buenos Aires Dolphins. The Dolphins, fresh off of back-to-back 100+ win seasons and a league-record 106 win year this season, swept the Rio de Janeiro Jaguars in impressive fashion. Northwest will need Chris Buchanan-like heroics and more to knock off the defending Americas League champions. However, as the champagne flowed easily deep in the gallows of the Ballpark at Pudget Sound late into the October night, it's not hard to imagine a group of happy-go-lucky kids that would be better suited for the fight.

Northwest wins North American Division, Will face Santo Domingo in first round

SEATTLE, WASH; For the second straight year, the Northwest Emeralds (86-70) will be back in the hunt for the World Baseball Association  championship. The second-youngest roster in the WBA held off the Mexico City Aztecs (75-81) with their young star shortstop Ramon Montes to win the North American Division by 11 games. At times, the pitching bailed out the young lineup. The Emerald's pitching staff, led by Michael Smith, finished second in the ABL in almost every pitching statistic. Smith posted a 4.5 WAR with a near-sub 3 ERA while offseason trade acquisition Gadiel bin Salman pitched his way to a 3.64 ERA and 3.3 WAR. While the team waits for former #1 overall pick Angelo Chavez to breakout, he posted a respectable 2.4 WAR at age 23, Ubadah bin Kardal once again showed grit and determination after being on the edge of not making the rotation out of the spring training. Kardal put up 3.50 ERA along with a 2.8 WAR while becoming a fan favorite for the Ems. The bullpen would become one of the most effective units in the league, with young live arms like Robinson Cordero and Gaustao Sardinheiro taking the ball in the most important situations and, more often that not, shutting the door.

Jason Himes once again proved to be one of the most consistent offensive players in the ABL. Himes posted career-high numbers in games played (156), HR (12), BB (126), K (54), SB (27), triple slash line (.313/.440/.881), and WAR (5.9). Not bad for a guy who won't even sniff MVP talks in a league dominated by Cheslav Zamorov and Carlos Vargas. However, it was not only Himes that paced the Emerald offense. In Roberto Parrina's first full stint in the big leagues, the outfielder showed massive power potential. In 153 games, Parrina hit .327 with 24 doubles, 35 home runs and a 4.7 WAR. Hector Velasquez continued to prove his high-average/on base skills with a .338 AVG and a 3 WAR. The Emeralds also called up top infield prospect Wagih Lacchelo in September in hopes of him being the starting shortstop in 2110.

The Emeralds are facing off against the Santo Domingo Palmchats, who are making their fifth consecutive trip to the postseason and have two championships under their belt. The matchup is your classic happy-go-lucky group of kids squaring off with a seasoned group of veterans. The Ems are undoubtably the underdog of the ABL making only their third postseason appearance ever after losing in the first round last season to the mighty Buenos Aires Dolphins. Is this the year that the Emeralds break out of their cribs and stun the WBA world? Or will the veteran-heavy Palmchats send them packing in the first round again?

Only time will tell.
