Haha yeah. I have fingers crossed that Stone and Karpat both get hurt... no way I can win the IBL otherwise.
My top two pitchers, Karpat and Jose Ramirez, are both coming off torn meniscus surgery. The Mumbai season may rest primarily on 1. The quality of the pitching mounds around the IBL 2. My pitchers realizing that with my lineup being as good as it is, the best thing for them to do at the plate (give us a damn DH Huck!) is stop trying to bunt for hits, run the bases aggressively, etc. 3. Just call the cops if you see a mugging, don't try to be a damn hero. 4. Hire a freaking handyman, genius.

Uh... something's not right here. I know Mumbai improved but I'm only put at 6 games above .500? And there's no way Rome comes third in their division.
Man I would be THRILLED if I clinched a playoff spot with a month left in the season because you were 18 games behind. Would need to line up my starting rotation and give old man Karpat a breather before October baseball commenced.

Monday January 27, 2110 (MUMBAI) The Mumbai front office has just emailed season ticket holders that the conman cometh. Serhat "Conman" Karpat, wideley considered one of the greatest pitchers in WBA history, is on his way to Mumbai to lead the Cobras rotation. And that's not all. The Cobra private jet is making a short stop on the East coast of the USA to pick up Mumbai's other pitcher acquisition, Andrés Ortíz. Mumbai manager APMP hopes that Karpat immediately takes Ortíz under his wing and mentors him during his transition to the IBL. Little needs to be said about Karpat. Still going strong at 35 years of age, Karpat will be the highest paid player in Cobra history this year (and probably the next two years as well). Ortiz is a strong, durable righty with a 95 mph cutter and, like Karpat, a propensity to keep the ball on the ground. This will be vital at Cobra park, which fans around the IBL affectionately (and sometimes derisively) call "the launchpad." Anything can happen in the WBA. But at this point, it's safe to assume that the Mumbai brass is probably done with the blockbusters. They may need to start digging in the couch cushions though. $20.7 million comes out to a lot of rupees.

I haven't thought hard enough about this yet to provide a meaningful suggestion, but I'll provide the following input because it's fresh in my mind.
I just extended Ninfa Sator, who is a 5-6 WAR center fielder and a true star. All he wanted in his extension was his current arbitration salary ($4.9 million) every year for the next five years. Naturally, I offered him that. And he signed with a massive grin on his face. Hell, he even said that he was happy to be taking below-market value (see attached).

I mean you can still make the deals it just won't be processed until the offseason starts, I don't think theirs much difference? Unless I am misunderstanding you.
I think it's the same if your suggestion is accepted (to push back the cash trade deadline/finances update to a few days after the start of the off-season). Basically I was requesting that July 31 not be the last day to trade minor leaguers in a cash deal. Without the finances update not being pushed back, July 31 would be the deadline, right Huck?

« on: September 22, 2017, 07:26:56 PM »
Is there any reason we shouldn't allow minor leaguers (zero major league service) to be traded during the time in question? Sometimes throwing a prospect in the cash deal gets it done...

With Andy Stone having been traded in a blockbuster to Melbourne and then immediately dissing his new team, Mumbai manager AP MP fielded several questions regarding the Andy Stone saga in today's press conference.
"Man, I haven't ever seen so many reporters here to ask about a FORMER player!
The following is my official statement on the matter, and I won't take any other questions...you'll have to ask Andy or our league commissioner.
Andy had an opt-out after this year but never indicated that he would exercise it. In fact, our original plan was to sign him to an extension, effectively forcing an 'opt-in,' and we even started discussing it with Andy. But we quickly learned that we were just too far apart. Andy's age and injury history meant we couldn't offer the money or years he wanted. So, ownership decided to include him in the package being sent to Melbourne.
I feel for Melbourne, but there's nothing I can do. When Andy was traded to Melbourne on October 26th, he was a Cobra, and had not opted out of his deal. When the league executed the trade a week later on November 2nd, he opted out immediately following the trade execution, which resulted on Melbourne being unable to start talks on negotiating an extension with him. When I came into the office on November 2nd, I had a message from Andy's agent that Andy opted out. I think the agent just screwed up, because the the ink on the Melbourne deal was dry, and even the mail message telling me Andy had opted out listed him as a Melbourne player."

For the second offseason in a row, Mumbai went out and hugely upgraded their offense. Last year, deals were reached with Singapore to add Ninfa Sator and with Paris to add Harsendu Dhruvasula. Both players paid immediate dividends, putting up all-star caliber seasons as Mumbai romped to the IBL Championship Series. Chicks dug the longball. Perhaps emboldened by their ability to win high scoring games in 2109, and still feeling the sting of not being able to land Cheslav Zamorov, the Mumbai brass has now added Bhuvanacandra Dwijen to what is clearly most fearsome lineup in the IBL. As an added bonus, Dwijen very likely has the team friendliest deal in the entire WBA. Nearly 200 years after the New York Yankees' famed Murderers' Row, Mumbai has one of its own. Behold the Cobras projected batting order when fully healthy (2109 stats in parentheses). - CF Ninfa Sator (.268/.405/.463, 32 HR and 62 SB out of the leadoff spot)
- 2B Augustyn Eidenshenk (.327/.363/.469, 224 hits to lead the IBL)
- 1B Ahvana Subbarayudu (.335/.411/.631, missed his second career triple crown but still hit a personal best 51 HR and set the single-season RBI record with 155)
- LF Harsendu Dhurvasula (.285/.416/.521 with 33 HR and 37 SB)
- RF Bhuvacandara Dwijen (.257/.374/.575 with 47 HR and 133 RBI in Melbourne, now moving to a friendlier hitter's park)
- SS Yi-Mou Fen (.245/.319/.479 with 36 HR and 102 RBI)
- C Kitaba Nzibo (.294/.370/.519 with 28 HR)
- 3B Ah-Cy Liang (.241/.349/.425 with 17 HR and 75 runs scored)
While Dwijen is clearly the headliner in this latest trade, Imazighen Kitur also comes to Mumbai in the deal and adds a quality, cost-controlled, shutdown arm in the bullpen. Kitur, Roberto Flores, and Balya Virendra will form an impressive late game trio, and that's before you consider the tantalizing (yet still unrealized) potential of Chua chay Chan and the possibility that future hall of famer and longtime Mumbai favorite Falco Venema returns. It would not be surprising if Mumbai looks to add starting pitching depth during the winter to try and offset the loss of veteran leader Andy Stone and the ace potential of Abjeljilill Abedi to a division rival. But the team has a definite identity for the foreseeable future. Chicks dig the longball.

Mumbai is exploring changing up its roster composition a little bit in an effort to get over the hump. Players open for discussion include: SP Jose Ramirez - He's a legend in the twilight of his career but still can give you 150 innings with a 3.50ish ERA. He's an impending free agent with a demand of $5 million, which I can offer but can't really afford. I'm happy to to a sign-and-trade or maybe even trade him to you outright if you want to take a stab at signing him on your own. I suppose you could wait until he's a free agent but hey, we all know the WBA is notorious for overpaying free agent pitchers, so why not beat the competition? Harsendu Dhurvasula - 5 star player, a power/speed guy that is especially nightmarish for RHPs. Easy candidate for 25 HR and 80 RBI in the middle of your lineup, and blazing speed to swipe 35+ bags a year. Super Durable. Only $3.9 million salary. I'm willing to part with him for the right price (which will be high). Bhuvacandra Dwijen - 5 star player that's an even better bat than the previous guy but doesn't have the stolen base capability. We're talking MVP level - .310 50HR 130 RBI (which is what he put up a couple years ago). Laughable $1.7 million salary this coming year. Expected to fetch a ransom if traded. Those last two guys are my starting corner OF, and I'm willing to consider moving one of them to add a superlative defender/high average guy in CF so I can move Sator out of CF. Mumbai also continues to look for a long term answer at catcher and I suppose I'm always interested in cash/pitching help (this season I think I have a stellar rotation but could listen about bullpen help).

It's not April 1st, so people don't quite know what to make of manager AP MP's comment (captured on video, secretly, by a fan late last night) that the Mumbai brass were going to make a push in the upcoming owner's meeting to ban Left-Handed Pitchers from the IBL.
"They're the devil to our offense...the ABL can have them, and ownership agrees," grumbled the longtime Mumbai skipper. "Sure, bin Fath is a great kid and has a chance to be our first homegrown pitching star, but Virendra was a disappointment. And did you see our bats go silent against Black Forest?!"
Crazier things have happened, but in this humble reporter's opinion, the chances of this rule change going through are about as high as Santo Domingo's chances of taking the WBA crown next year.

I decided to go back and review the "Successes" on my list, with an eye toward being less generous and a little more demanding. I decided that, if I had it to do over again, I'd move Ishemgujin and Mwendapole to the Disappointments list. I'd move Wang and Song to the "Unknowns - too young" category, and I'm really on the fence about Surendranath, Salehe and Ranjan. If you leave those 3 guys as Successes, the final tally is 10 Successes, 13 Disappointments, 9 Flameouts and 5 Unknowns, which means that the Success rate becomes 31 percent (10 of 32). If you move Surendranath, Salehe and Ranjan to the Disappointments list, the tally is 7 Successes, 16 Disappointments, 9 Flameouts and 5 Unknowns, lowering the Success rate to 22 percent (7 of 32).
I don't know about anybody else, but I'm a little depressed to think that, when you draft a pitcher in one of the first two rounds, the chances of him becoming a successful big-league pitcher are less than 1 in 3, maybe even less than 1 in 4. But it's not like you may as well wait until the later rounds to select a pitcher. Huck's study shows that players get less productive (significantly so) every round. Simply put, if you want a pitcher, the best you can do is to draft one in the first two rounds and cross your fingers. Most of them just don't make it.
Wonder if anybody's done a similar study for MLB

I like this.
My only note is that I'd be fine with Situation #1 being handled without a game being played...since no postseason berth is on the line I feel less inclined that it needs to be "settled on the field." Maybe a tiebreaker hierarchy like the following could work: 1) Head-to-head record between the teams, 2) If head-to-head tied, then better run differential (could be run differential in only the head-to-head games or even across the entire regular season), 3) If run differential also tied, then coin flip.
195
« on: July 10, 2017, 03:56:57 PM »
It was a three-way tie and they draft before Karachi and after Seoul. Right now the WBA rules say that draft order is determined in-game by the OOTP software.
From Seoul's perspective they would, at this point, rather have not played in the game if they are now moved to drafting after Mumbai. If that change were forced, they would have received less revenue than Mumbai and now also draft after them.
Right, I agree that at this point, Seoul would not have played the game. What I was meaning to say is that, in my opinion, the higher draft pick in every single round is far more preferable to the marginally higher revenue (which by my estimations is less than $3 million). Of course if that's what the constitution says, then that's how it is. (Showing my work--I would definitely want the better pick in each round of the draft rather than the higher revenue for 3rd place instead of 4th place: I think the constitution has the payout difference between 3rd and 4th as $1.5 million. The remaining formulas are ALMOST a wash since we have the same number of wins...I think there might be a slight difference on local media payout because they look at standings finish and maybe team strength which uses Pythagorean winning percentage?) Not trying to stir up too much controversy, and I think Huck has already started a separate tiebreaker thread. Just venting a bit and seeing what other owners think
196
« on: July 10, 2017, 11:10:10 AM »
Actually, that is correct. You technically finished third in the Asian Division with a better record than Seoul. Once OOTP locked you out of the playoff you were then basically locked into third place in the division.
Seoul had a chance at the playoffs but by losing they finished 4th. Accordingly you got the revenue based on finishing third in the division.
So Mumbai got more revenue than a playoff team and draft after a playoff team even though they were robbed of their playoff shot. And Seoul got the playoff shot but higher pick than me after losing the playoff game. I don't think the revenue difference is huge and I'd rather take the higher pick in each round, but I'm not sure what's fair and what's proper per our constitution. Any other WBA owners have any thoughts?
197
« on: July 09, 2017, 09:28:44 PM »
That's horribad...C'mon OOTP it's an easy fix.
At least I'll draft before Karachi and Seoul. Right?
Yet another bug rears its head in OOTP. I draft after Seoul...probably because they lost the playoff game and therefore have one more loss than me. Huck, can you edit the draft order manually to fix?
