SS Lu-shan Sheng -- Sheng is still with Rio and could potentially still get some important ABs for the club, but there's no reason to delay the induction. A 15th-rd pick in the 2124 draft, Sheng shocked everyone but the Rio scouts when he blossomed into an all-time great player. He anchored the Rio infield at Shortstop for 11 seasons before transition to 3rd and then 1st base in his later years. He's second in the WBA in career WAR at SS and leads Rio all-time in Games Played, Runs Scored, and RBI's, among other categories. He's an MVP, 2-time Gold Glover, and 9-time silver slugger.

SP Jose Esparza -- Esparza is still active, as well, and hopes to carry Single-A Belem to a Championship in his age 40 season :-). Esparza was drafted with 2-way player aspirations, and although his bat never developed quite enough to be a regular position player it was more than enough to make him a regular Silver Slugger contender (eventually winning 6 of the awards). While not dominant by ERA standards, Esparza was always near the top of the league in innings pitched and is the Rio de Janeiro all-time leader in that category. He was a reliable presence in the Rio rotation for 14 seasons, and far more valuable than the numbers might suggest.

SP Heriberto Samps -- Like Esparza, Samps was a pitcher who provided significant value to the team with his bat. Samps was fleeced from Sao Paulo in 2126 and became a mainstay in the Rio rotation for the next decade. While only earning 26.5 career pitching WAR with Rio, he added another 6 WAR (and 7 Silver Sluggers!) at the plate. Samps is here for all the same reasons Esparza is.

SP Kenneth MacWhannel -- MacWhannel is far and away the best pure pitcher being inducted today, having accumulated 35.9 WAR over the 9.5 prime seasons of his career. He was a Strikeout pitcher, typically finishing his seasons with ~9 K/9. Unfortunately, he lost his fastball velocity at age 30 and he was forced off of the big league roster by age 32. But rather than calling it quits, MacWhannel spent 3 seasons in the minors re-tooling his game and emerged for a late career renaissance in 2142 at the age of 35. He added 3 more strong pitching seasons to his resume and firmly established his place in the Rio Hall of Fame. MacWhannel is now the Rio de Janeiro career leader in both Strikeouts and pitching WAR.

I would also like to extend an Honorable Mention to the following players who are not being inducted but are hopeful to eventually be upgraded:

LF Jose Cabrera -- A prototypical leadoff batter, he converted walks into doubles better than any other player in Rio history. Over the course of 7 seasons (plus some "legacy" appearances in his twilight years) he accumulated 597 BBs and 292 SBs (at a success rate of just over 85%; highest in Rio history and possibly highest in WBA history... cannot find a good way to confirm).

3B Christian Blanchard -- Only spent 4 years with Rio, but they were truly dominant. He led the league in HRs 3 times, accumulated 23.7 WAR and carried Rio to a surprise 2140 WBA Championship. Seems likely to be inducted, eventually.

WBA Times / 4!!! Additions to the Rio Hall of Fame
« on: September 20, 2021, 08:21:08 PM »
First up, the GOAT: SP Gaudencio Bobadilha. By the time he arrived in Rio de Janeiro via Free Agency at age 33, he had already had a full career and was a near-lock for the WBA HoF. But he wasn't done yet. Boba spent 10 fantastic seasons in Rio, with the highlight being his 2128 season in which he led the league in ERA (2.79) at age 41. Boba is the WBA career leader in innings pitched and he was briefly the leader in career WAR by a pitcher (ballpark factor changes stole it from him immediately after he earned it - maybe he'll get it back one day). Boba's career ERA of 3.04 is the lowest of any qualified starting pitcher.

Next up, a truly dominant offensive threat: Jorge Tapia. Like Bobadilha, Tapia was already a star before arriving in Rio. Humble-and-handsome Hall of Fame GM Echo127 recognized Tapia's immense talent, and sent off a 1st-and 2nd round draft pick along with star RF Juliano Barrantes in a 3-way trade to bring Tapia to the Jaguars. At his peak, Tapia would put up OBPs well above .400--for 10 straight seasons (from age 22 thru 31) he put up an OBP of .390 or better. His peak season came in 2121 when he put up a slash line of .376/.478/.567. Tapia never had great defensive range, but his outstanding arm kept him a viable option in RF through age 38. Tapia is the Rio franchise career leader in WAR.

The third inductee might be a bit of a faux pas, as he's still active (and pitching well!) but it would be kinda awkward if all his longterm teammates were getting in while he's made to wait... so congratulations, CL Kumanosuke Shimizu! Unlike the previous 2, Shimizu spent his entire major league career in Rio. He was drafted by Manila in 2113 and traded to the Jaguars the next. Shimizu has spent his career alternating between true-closer and stopper/miscellaneous-high-leverage-out-getter. Shimizu is 2nd in career pitching WAR for Rio (behind only the also-inducted Gaudencio Bobadilha), and is the Rio franchise leader in Saves, K's, Games Pitched, and, at least for this moment, WHIP (he's got a very tenuous lead over all-time great CL Justin White). Kumanosuke's career 2.55 ERA is the second-best in WBA history (among qualified pitchers), trailing only the aforementioned Justin White.

Tonight's 4th and final inductee is one that I, to my great shame, overlooked: 3B Ricardo Peralta. Ricardo Peralta was elected to the WBA Hall of Fame in 2129, and it wasn't until recently that I realized he did so in a Rio cap!!! Peralta was an all-around great player - he could defend, he could hit, and he could even steal a base on occasion. Peralta was a journeyman, playing for 6 different teams, winning 3 silver sluggers and 2 gold gloves. In 2118 he won an MVP and a World Series as a Jaguar.

I'd also like to highlight three honorable-mentions:
1B Luis Martinez - A player who came up through the Rio system as a 2B, but was converted to 1B shortly after arrival in the Majors. A somewhat atypical 1B, Martinez is 3rd in career SB by a first baseman.
SP Tony Reyes - The WBA's greatest control pitcher, and a threat at the plate, too. Reyes is the WBA career leader in BB/9 (1.17... next best is 1.42). Reyes hit .285 for his career and won one silver slugger - would've won many more, but often failed to pitch enough innings to qualify.
LF Nelson Ackland - Longtime nightmare-fuel for Jake "Dan Farnell", Ackland's career numbers are surprisingly not that impressive. He was very good for a long time, but rarely elite. I think he gets in eventually, but I gotta let it simmer.

--------------

Bobadilha, Tapia, Shimizu, and Peralta join:

1B Ze Vargas,
2B Ricardo Ramirez,
3B Ernesto Colon,
SS Piero Folena,
CL Justin White,
SP Bob Turner,
1B/2B Alfredo Ruiz.

Rio sends:
2134 4th rd pick*
2133 5th rd pick

*The draft pick trades spreadsheet indicates that Mexico has this my 4th rd pick. But it doesn't have the Bob-highlighting and I can't find evidence of me trading it away. If Mexico really does have that pick, this trade is void.

Beijing sends:
C Nick Sandidge and his 9 C Ability.

I think I need to move either 3B Luis Pena or 1B/3B Dave Woods. Pena is an elite defender at 3B with a good bat. Woods is a very good defender at 3B with a very good bat (30+ HRs). Both earned ~5 WAR last season.

My situation: Between 3B and 2B, I need to pick 2 from the group of Luis Pena, Dave Woods, 1B/2B Boboy Rivera, and UTIL Lopes Redinho to be my everyday starter.

Ideally, I'd move either Woods or Pena for a true second baseman (7+ range, hopefully decent avoid-Error). If it was a left-handed 2B I could platoon him with Boboy, which would be fun. I could afford to part with either OF Harry Dryden or OF Sung-heun Kim as there's not room for both to start (until Jose Cabrera ages out) or some pitching if it helps me get the right player. I am open to discussing creative trades that shuffle additional players around - I just need to be convinced that it is beneficial to me.

If nothing like that can be arranged, I'll just need to move Woods or Pena  for cheap to get their contracts away and roll with Boboy at 2B. Would be very inefficient to keep both around.

So, uh, this is most of my AAA roster.

This guy is free. Pure salary dump:
3B Raul Soto
http://www.worldbaseballassociation.com/reports/news/html/players/player_1805.html

This group of guys... cheap post it's. 1.5M or 5th rd pick for any of them, with 2 caveats:
  • In addition to the pick/cash you need to send me some random guy from your minors with the same position, just for roster fill
  • I reserve the right to renege and not confirm your post. I don't intend to. But it could happen. Particularly if these guys start selling like hotcakes. Don't want my reserves to get *too* depleted.

Daegu sends 2B Boboy Rivera

Rio sends:
3rd rd draft pick (assume Beadle wants 2131, but he's free to request 2132)
SP Yun-fat Lee (A)

50
I keep seeing good players at good prices so I keep signing them, and now I've got a log jam... everywhere. Ideally I'd like to package these guys with someone else to give myself a major league upgrade, but nobody wants to do that. So prospects and picks, or cash, or maybe a good C if any are available. Would trade any of these guys for a 27-man roster, straight-up.

Infield
1 or 2 of these 3 needs to go.

2B/3B/(SS) Raul Soto - 3.7 WAR in 500 ABs last year. Great defender, decent switch-hitting bat, elite base stealer. Shoo-in for GG if playing 3B. 2yrs @ $6.3M/yr left. Just want to save the money.
SS/3B Jose Gonzales  - Elite defender. Amazing platoon hitter vs. LHP, good enough to start vs. RHP. Leaning toward keeping him instead of Soto, but feel free to offer. 1yr @ $4.25M left
2B Rich Grant  - Signed him 'cuz I thought it was fantastic value, but I really don't have room in my infield. 7/6/4/6/8 ratings both sides of the plate, OK 2B defender with 6 range. 2 years @ 1.4M left. Might train him up as a backup 1B. Would trade for $1.

Outfield
LF/RF Cisco Gonzales - 2.3 WAR in 445 PAs last year, but just has no place on my roster anymore. Could go for a flyer prospect.
LF/(CF)/RF Ryan Schenkel - Great utility OF. 2.1 WAR in 355 PAs last year, but probably has no place on my roster anymore...looking like my top reserve in AAA Hoping for something like a 3rd rd pick?
CF Yuki Yoshioka - Paid huge for him last year, he was awful. Should be good at everything based on ratings, and I expect somewhat of a bounceback, but not room for both him and Marcus Oliver on the roster. Enters Arbitration after this season.
CF Marcus Oliver. Elite CF defender + basestealer, Hucklebatter. Leaning towards keeping him instead of Yoshi but would listen to offers. 1.5yrs of service time. Would want something like a mid first rd pick.

Pitching
I'm not even sure which guys to list here. I've got ~20 pitchers that I want on my roster. These guys are pretty much all on cheap contracts so I'm not desperate to move, but if I can get value I'll take it:

SP Hyun-chul Lee, RP  Felino Escamillan, SP/RP Josh Van Buizen, SP/RP Jose Monzo, RP Tim Martin
