Uh... something's not right here. I know Mumbai improved but I'm only put at 6 games above .500? And there's no way Rome comes third in their division.

The numbers are what they are, my man. Although as always remember that things like injuries are not taken into account. So, for example, Andy Stone is predicted to start every turn in the rotation despite his "wrecked" injury status.

A new feature here at the WBA Times, our overall WBA preseason power rankings. These rankings report the expected record of each team in the WBA if the schedule were changed to a round robin between all the teams in both leagues. That requires a non-integer number of games between each team, but fortunately math doesn't care about reality sometimes. Let the debate begin!

Bob i think the words you are looking for are "FAKE NEWS.... sad"

I'm hoping my young talent develops and MC can find a winning record - particularly looking forward to seeing how this season plays out. This gives me a baseline challenge anyway. SP is loaded so no surprises there.

There are basically 5 levels in the WBA this season.

Championship contenders - Top 8 with 3 heavier favorites

Dark horses - the next 4

Stuck in the middle - the next 3

Rebuilding scrubs - the next 4

Paris

I wouldn't worry too much about this.  I was predicted as slightly above .500 last season and won 97 games.  Now I'm predicted to be 9 games worse than last season yet I have added Rainha, Kemboi, Seixas and Boone this offseason.  I don't think any team in the Afro-European Division wins more than 95 games this year.  I think the division winner will be at 93 or 94 wins with the other 3 good teams being at 90-92 wins.

Man I would be THRILLED if I clinched a playoff spot with a month left in the season because you were 18 games behind.  Would need to line up my starting rotation and give old man Karpat a breather before October baseball commenced.

I don't know that there is anyway you are winning the IBL regardless of what happens.  I think you might be 6th best in the IBL at this point.

My top two pitchers, Karpat and Jose Ramirez, are both coming off torn meniscus surgery.  The Mumbai season may rest primarily on

1. The quality of the pitching mounds around the IBL

2. My pitchers realizing that with my lineup being as good as it is, the best thing for them to do at the plate (give us a damn DH Huck!) is stop trying to bunt for hits, run the bases aggressively, etc.

3. Just call the cops if you see a mugging, don't try to be a damn hero.

4. Hire a freaking handyman, genius.

I know this isn't the point of the thread (and no DH isn't that big of a deal), but I don't understand why sending a pitcher to the plate and instructing him to keep the bat on his shoulders is real baseball while allowing an extra slugger to take his hacks isn't.

Not sure about that. I think I'm better than Barca and London, probably BF too (maybe?) Well, that's why we play the games I guess. Nobody would have guessed BF would win it last year, we'll have to see.

If you wanna hit, then play the field. That's the design of the game. The fact that people figured out over time that one position on the field could be far more valuable for their defensive contribution than their offensive doesn't mean that position shouldn't have to hit.

Why only one DH? Do you not realize how much better leaguewide defense and offense could be if baseball just went ahead and allowed full platoon substitutions? Either do it or don't do it, making an exception for one guy out of nine is just silly.

I generally agree and I'm still annoyed the Astros got forced into the AL.

That being said, I'm not insistent on the if you want to hit play the field for pitchers. I'd be fine with a batting order of only eight, with the pitcher being removed rather than replaced.

I’m not sure “if you want to hit then play the field” is really the design of the game, but regardless, I don’t think the initial design is necessarily relevant anymore. Back in the day they didn’t use batting helmets or let people of color play either. Times change and so does the game.

And to be completely honest, your proposed design of “let the best people play what they’re best at at all times” kind of sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. Baseball is a game. I watch because it’s fun. Watching Clayton Kershaw bat .100 and bunt in half of his plate appearances isn’t fun, especially when I could be watching an extra plate appearance from Austin Barnes or Logan Forsythe or whoever.

I get that you feel there’s some sort of integrity to the game that you lose by allowing a DH, but more legitimate plate appearances and less opportunities for pitchers to get injured only sounds like a plus to me. Now, obviously we can’t really see that fun in a simulation, so in the case of OOTP and the WBA it hardly matters to me, but as far as the MLB goes, I’m a full supporter of league-wide DH.

No, I'm serious about full platoon. If you're going to do it then DO IT. Imagine Andrelton Simmons being a slightly above average fielder. Imagine never having to watch a defensive specialist catcher hit. Why do I want to watch Nelson Cruz try to make a catch to win the World Series when I can watch a defensive stud do it instead? You actually agree with me. If original design isn't going to be honored so that it can be more fun for fans then don't half-ass it.

And yes, I'd watch full platoon baseball. At least that league would be honest about what it's trying to do.

Forgot to add that I would love a full platoon option in OOTP, as well. Think about resource allocation if those were the rules.

This guy recently signed by Mumbai would have been a bidding war. As it is I let him go once Mumbai beat my offer.

I'm a little late but
1. The DH sucks and always will.
2. We got super off track so I will say I win my division, Paris wins Afroeuro, SD wins LA, and Ottawa wins NA. Those are Bob's PredictionsTM.

The DH sucks in real life, agreed 100%.

OOTP has never handled pitcher hitting and pinch hitting very well in the past, so I have always been in favor of the DH in online leagues. That being said, these issues came up numerous versions ago and I don't even remember what they were specifically. I have seen no issues in our league though, so perhaps they actually made some progress in that area.
